We had a super weekend down in Bournemouth at the BICC dinner. This is what classic racing is all about.
We will start weaning young birds in 3 weeks time and also see our first test loft birds arrive. Exciting times ahead.

February all ready .. Birds are starting to hatch out now but the weather is cold and we have had one egg hatch only in some of the nests. We are very pleased with the older stock birds as they have laid in good time and all the eggs have been full under these.

We have paired the widowhood cocks this week and are very pleased with how they have settled all ready, we just put in the hens and let them pair to any cock and by day 2 most had paired and were in the box cwtching.
The stock cocks have been moved to their respective lofts also but we are letting them take a box before adding hens, all the hens will be specifically placed in the loft and both will be locked away and let out for an hour a day until they are on eggs. This takes time but ensures 100% correct breeding details. The Widowhood hens will be paired in around a weeks time and these will be targeted at the early classics. Happy New Year to you all Ant and Bryan We would like to wish friends old and new a fantastic new year. Eat Drink and be merry. Our stock are nearly ready for pairing and we hope to have a few together soon. Dickie boy is pictured, we only had 1 from him last year and hope for many this year. He will get a younger hen this year and hope to get a few from him. B Williams & Son would like to wish Friends, Family and visitors to this site a Merry Christmas. We are busy here getting the birds ready for pairing and hope to put a few breeders together in early January. The darkness have nearly all finished the moult with most on their last flight. They are looking well and a picture taken this week is on the left. Merry Christmas The birds are nearly through the moult, all the breeding and natural birds are on their last or finished, the darkness have 1 or 2 to go but are in fine feather.
We are looking like pairing in Mid January , we have them on Barley, Beans and all round mixture and we will keep them on this until 1 week before pairing, the barley will then be taken out of the mix. Birds are nearly finished moulting - left is a picture of our 2012 BICC winner. The darkness have 1 or 2 flights to go and the naturals are nearly up on the last flight. We hope to pair them in mid January. We are building a classic team for the future - in 2013 we will pair the sire of our 2011 and the dam of our 2012 BICC winners together. We hope to build a team up for the future for the classic from these birds. With all this fine weekend weather we have had the chance to clean all the lofts and get the baths in for the birds. They are all now well underway in the moult.
This time of year is very important as they will be racing next year with the new feathers growing now. We hope to get all the darkness through by the end of the year and the stock and naturals will be all done by late November. The moult is well underway and all birds have been parted. They will get baths twice a week and plenty of oily seeds to help them along.
We will move all the widowhood cocks back in to the Widowhood loft in November and they will all get a box to fight for. There is always 2 spare boxes in the loft so a dominant cock can have a little more motivation. We will race 20 widowhood cocks and 16 widowhood hens and 22 natural yearlings, all these birds have raced in 2012. ant Well the season is officially over, we had a good days racing yesterday and are very proud of the birds.
Salisbury - we sent 10 and got 7 home, all these birds were injured birds and were sent after many weeks of being rested. They will have built their confidence up now and will race here as old birds. Carentan - We had a tougher race here but finished 1st section national and 7th open provisionally. We are very pleased and the winning bird was bred by Steve light from Yorkshire. We had 8 from 18 on the day but more will turn in today. I think we have earned a good rest and will wwork now on getting the birds through the moult. |
